The visitor

When we came back from New York, and I walked outside to get the mail, I saw this little guy standing by our front door. I quietly went back in and got my camera, and thanks to the magic of the zoom I was able to get a decent picture of him.

The tree card

Bella made me this card the other day. It is not meant to be a Christmas tree, but it kind of looks that way to me.

Rule breakers

Apparently the girls don't care that when you go down the slide, you are supposed to go head first.

Sands Open House 2013

Coming back from New York we went straight to pick up Bella at the Goddard school, stopped by the house to unpack quickly, and then went to Sands to pick up Sofia and to attend this year's open house. Sofia really wanted us to go, and I didn't want to disappoint her especially considering that I had been out of town. So even though Lionel and I were exhausted and starving, we did our best to attend the open house without rushing the girls. We went to both classrooms, and even stopped by the cafeteria where a bunch of kids were singing with the music teacher.

New York

Two days after I came back from my recruiting trip, Lionel and I went to New York for the weekend. We had planned this trip several months ago, before we knew I would go on the recruiting trip. I really wanted to go, to see Michael Buble in concert again and to spend time just the two of us, but it also made me sad to leave my girls back to back. Sofia was excited to spend the weekend at my sister's house with Diego, but Bella was very sad when I dropped them off. Gabi told me she eventually calmed down and enjoyed the rest of the weekend, but it was very tough to leave her crying and turn around and go.

The trip to New York was fun. We saw one of Lionel's college friends who lives there now, we saw our friend David, and we ran 6 miles in central park. The concert was fun as usual, but when we got there I realized we did not have floor tickets, which was a bit of a downer. Since the concert was all the way in Brooklyn we took the subway both ways, which was convenient but is also not my cup of tea. I feel like the subway is always dirty, and everybody seems to be in such a bad mood. The good news was that on the way back the subway station was literally couple short blocks from our hotel.

It had been almost 3 years since the last time we went to NYC, and we had a great time, but I was also very happy to come home to my girls.

Michigan Recruiting Trip

Last week I spent three days at the University of Michigan with some of my work friends for a recruiting trip. I had never been there, but I learned it is a really nice campus, with a very good engineering school.  This time around we didn't get to travel on the corporate jet, but it wasn't too bad of a drive. We took my car, and it took us about 4 and half hours, taking a break for lunch.

The career fair was tiring, since we didn't get much of a break, and the next day we spent 10 full hours - back to back - interviewing candidates. Half of them were great [the other half not so much] and they will be coming to Cincinnati for a day visit in the next 3 weeks.

It is never easy to be away from the girls for several days, but I was happy to go on the trip. We really need to build our pipeline, and it makes me proud to be doing this for the company, and helping good candidates get a chance at a good job. Once upon a time somebody saw potential in me and gave me an opportunity, and I can now do the same for somebody else.

The last two weeks

The last two weeks have been a total and complete blur. With couple of trips, and plenty of extra activities at work, I have been barely keeping up. So I didn't have a chance to update my blog until now. I may not remember everything that has happened in the last couple weeks, but I will try...
