Birthday Weekend

Jun 21,

Gabi came to Cincinnati for her birthday weekend, and Monique and Philippe also happened to be here. We tried to maximize our time together, cut cake, and went to see Toy Story 5.

Manila

Just a couple of photos of my time in Manila.

Boracay

Jun 14,

After spending the work week in Manila, I had to stay the weekend to join another set of meetings the following week. Instead of just staying in Manila, I decided to go to the beach by myself. Philippines is famous for their beaches, so I couldn’t go all the way there and not try to visit them. My coworkers suggested Boracay and I am glad they did. It was beautiful and exactly what I needed.

Getting to Boracay required a short 1 hour flight, a van ride, a boat ride, and another van ride. But I didn’t have to figure it out on my own. I took the Manila hotel transportation to and from the airport, and the Boracay hotel transportation on the other end. It was all very convenient and safe.

The sand was white, and the water was clear and warm. I normally only get my feet wet, because I get cold easily, but it was so nice and warm that I got all the way in and even floated for a while.

I am not a very good “ by myself” type person, because I’ve never had the need, so I was proud of myself for my solo trip. Since I love the beach, and Boracay was so pretty, I enjoyed my couple of days and never felt lonely.

Weekend in Tokyo

Jun 8,

After coming back from Boulder I had to head to Asia for work. Since my itinerary had me going through Tokyo, I decided to spend the weekend there before taking the final flight to Manila. It hadn’t even occurred to me to do that, but someone from my team suggested it and we did it together.

Together we figured out the subway and went all over the place. We did a mix of modern and traditional Tokyo. The subway was the cleanest and most quiet and organized ever, and we always felt safe whenever we went. For Modern Tokyo we went to a place called TeamLab Planets, we saw the Shibuya crossing, went to Tokyo Tower, and the Toyosu Market. For traditional Tokyo we went to the Koishikawa Korakuen gardens, Asakusa, the Nezu Shrine, and a few other places along the way.

I enjoyed Tokyo and it was a growth weekend for me as I navigated the trains and made it to my hotel all by myself, and became our navigator in the subway. Oh, and also ate mostly with chopsticks.

Back to Boulder

May 31,

Sofia said good bye to Cincinnati for now, and the two of us did a two day road trip driving her car back to Boulder. We drove to Kansas on the 28th, spent the night, and drove to Boulder on the 29th. We then spent the day together on the 30th, and I flew back to Cincinnati today. It was worth the long drive to spend a couple more days with her.
