Canoeing

Sep 1,

Today we went on a canoeing adventure, which was really more a Kayaking and [should-have-chosen-something-else] Rafting one. Yes, the raft, which everybody thought would be the best for the kids, was a pain in the  butt.

Lionel did not want to come so he stayed, which I think really worked out because he would have lost his patience more than once. At the end of the day, we were gone for 12 hours straight. With such a big group everything took a while: From getting there, to deciding who was going to share the Raft or the Kayaks, to making it to the end of the tour after several breaks. Since we were there for several hours we also had all kinds of weather. First it was cloudy, then the sun came out, then we got rained on, and then then the sun came back out. Rowing for that long was tiring, but it was also a much needed chance of pace. It was nice to be surrounded by water and trees, instead of being in front of the computer all day. And while we had our fair share of misadventures (Kayaks that turned over, coolers that fell in the water, people that fell in the water, one lost shoe, one car that did not start), that was all part of the experience. And overall we had a great time.
