Heart Mini 15K

This weekend was supposed to be the heart mini, which I always run in honor of my dad. It got cancelled because of the Coronavirus, and the request for social distancing, but the organizers still encouraged everybody to get out there and complete the run. So I did. It was another slow run, but I was committed to finish it. I was actually still not back at home when I hit the 9 mile mark, so I finished the run but then started another one and completed and extra mile.

Home Schooling - Day 5

Today I was on calls from 6:00 am (or 6:15 to be exact) to 12:40 pm. It was non-stop back to back. This one call was supposed to end at noon, but it went ridiculously over time. At 12:40 I took a break to eat lunch, and at 1:30 I went back to the grind. At around 4:30 Lionel and I took the dog for a walk, which was a welcomed change Vs sitting down all day. After our walk I went grocery shopping, stopped by my parent's house to drop a few things off, and came back to the house. We put all the food away, I helped Bella take her clothes out of the drier, and now - while Lionel makes dinner - I finally sat down for a few minutes to write this paragraph down. After dinner, I am going to go back to my room to organize myself for next week so I don't have to work over the weekend.
So was I bored this week, being stuck at home? No. Not really. In fact, I barely noticed. When you have so much to do at work, the days don't go slowly. They actually fly by. Too much to do, and too little time.

Home Schooling - Day 4

Truth be told, I probably should not be naming these entries as "Home schooling". Because let's face it. I am personally NOT doing any schooling. I am at home, but I am working and going from virtual meeting to virtual meeting. So I am not really contributing much to my kids education. The teachers are sending homework via email and Powerschool, but I am asking the girls to look at it themselves. Sadly, I have no time to do it for them. I have to trust that they are looking for it, and doing it, without any oversight needed from me.
While many parents are already going stir crazy, I have barely noticed that I haven't gone out all week. I guess that is a good thing about having no time to breath. I did, however, notice that the weather outside was so sad and lame. Gray and raining all day. I could see it from my new working spot in my room - where I basically sat all day.
Towards the end of the day Bella brought me a snack: Tea, apples, and peanut butter. So I took a break and we did our little picnic - something we hand't done in weeks.
At some point Lionel came up and laid down next to my desk, and closed his eyes for a few minutes just to take a break from another stressful day.

Home Schooling - Day 3

Today I worked the whole day in my room - except for the first couple of hours. Bella came up to sleep in our bed, so I couldn't really be on the phone and came down to start the day in the living room. I have a small table in our room, where I normally have my jewelry and other items, and I cleared all that up so I can use it at my desk. My ottoman is just the right height to sit comfortably for a while. That will probably be my new working spot, as Lionel is now also working from home. Besides, the girls are usually downstairs, moving around and making noise, and it wouldn't fair to tell them to be quiet all day.
While I was in back to back calls all day, Lionel worked, and Sofia did homework on and off, Bella and Emma fought boredom by making us lunch (pizza, salad, and banana bread). And they also made us dinner. And we worked together on cleaning and organizing he pantry. By the evening, even Sofia got into the cooking scene by finishing some cupcakes with Bella.
Lionel also made a quick run to Kroger, and came back with news that there are definitely many empty shelves. It still seems odd, like this is not really happening, and tomorrow we will wake up and be like "Just kidding! We are back to normal".

Home Schooling - Day 2

Today went relatively Ok. I was on the phone non-stop starting at 7:30 am, until 1:40 pm. In the meantime the girls got up, got ready, and (I believe) completed their morning school work. They were supposed to eat lunch at noon, but decided to wait around until I got off the phone. They really should have eaten on time, but I appreciate the sentiment.
To encourage the kids to still stay connected, Bella's teacher asked all of them to wear something green (for Saint Patrick's day) and post a picture of themselves in a community google document. Bella didn't have something green to wear, so I let her help herself with my closet.
Sofia spent a lot of time doing her French homework, and I am pretty sure she also got plenty of phone time.
Emma was super sad because they were officially informed that they are going back home earlier than expected, although no date has been given. I am sure it is going to be a complete nightmare to make travel arrangements for all the students - there are about 2000 of them in the US alone - so for all we know it may still take weeks before they go back home. While I think she lucked out in other aspects (I.e. She went skiing with us and we managed to make this trip before this all started), I understand she is sad that the experience will be shortened. And that it will be sad to leave without the good bye parties all the students thought they would have time to organize. But safety comes first. And in this situation it is probably best that they are back with their real families in case things get even worse.
In the late afternoon they worked together on today's chore, which was cleaning the yard. The weather warmed up, so it was a good day for it. They did a horrible job at it. Clearly, they had no idea what they were doing - or intentions to get it. But they spent time outside and played a little bit with each other, which was a big part of the objective. Lionel and I also took a 20 minute walk, which was much needed after pretty much staying in the same spot working all day.
For dinner I made pozole, which is always a house favorite.

Home Schooling - Day 1

Today was the first day of the 3 week mandatory school closing. While Sofia complained over the weekend about us giving them a daily schedule, today everybody followed it (although loosely at times) without any complaining. All the girls got up at 9:00 am as requested, got dressed, ate breakfast, and continued with the day. Bella definitely studied less than what the schedule called for, because she swears she doesn't have that much to do. If that is true, we are going to have to quickly come up with more homework. Sofia did get in her piano practice, which I added to the schedule because it has been a while since she had real time for it. And I think it will be good for her. And Emma and Bella cleaned the freezer, their chosen chore for the day.
At work everybody tried to be in Ok spirits. We are used to working remote, but not all the time, and not because of this. And it is obvious that everybody is stressed out about having to work and take care of the kids at the same time. This is definitely going to take a toll on us. And the worst part probably hasn't even started yet. Let's hope we can quickly get into a routine to protect our mental sanity.
