Europe - Day 7 - Good evening Strasbourg

May 31,

This evening we got settled into our rental apartment and went out for a walk and for dinner. The weather was really nice, so it felt like everyone was out - especially a lot of young people who gave the city a pretty cool and fun vibe.

Europe - Day 7 - Marnay

May 31,

Marnay is the little town where Lionel's grandparents used to live, and where he spent a lot of his summers when he was a kid. His grandparents are gone, and their house was sold a few years ago, but we still got to see it from across the bridge. We also walked by the church where Lionel was baptized, by a sports area named after his grandfather (who was the town's doctor) and by the local cemetery. Both Lionel's grandma and grandpa are buried there, and we also found the names of other people who I am assuming were also family. They are from a long time ago, but it was sad to see the names of 3 children who died when they were less than 2 years old.

Europe - Day 7 - Good bye Switzerland. Hello France

May 31,

This morning we left Switzerland to drive to France. It was nice and sunny, and for the first time it was so clear that we could actually see the top of the mountains - still covered with snow. The total drive was about 5 hours, but we broke it into two chunks. We first had lunch in Besancon, then stopped by Marnay, and  made it to Strasbourg at about 6:00 pm.

Europe - Day 6 - Tooth

May 30,

This evening Bella lost another tooth. Or more like she got it out because it was really bugging her. We didn't have a special place to put it so it didn't get lost, so it ended up with my jewelry.

Europe - Day 6 - Hike to Lake Taney

May 30,

Today has been a beautiful, sunny day - the first truly sunny day of the trip - and we took advantage of it by hiking to Lake Taney (Lac de Taney). In fact, the reason Lionel rented this place was so that we could go there one day during our stay.

The lake was only about 2 kilometers from here, but the hike was tough as it is really steep. Bella struggled at the beginning, and was getting really whiny, but at some point got happier and started to do better. It took us about an hour to get there, all uphill, but it was worth it. It wasn't warm enough to dip our feet on the lake, but it was a really nice view. So we lingered for a little while,  had lunch there, and eventually headed back down. Coming down was challenging too, as the super steep road is hard on the knees. We took a couple of trails hoping they would be easier than walking on the road, but those were tough too. So we were happy when we finally reached the parking lot, which is only about 100 meters from the rental house.

Europe - Day 5 -Dora

May 29,

When the barista doesn't really care what name you gave, because he thinks you clearly look like Dora. Bella was not particularly amused, but the rest of us were.

Europe - Day 5 - Lausanne

May 29,

After the museum we walked around Lausanne for a little bit. The sun was in and out, and there were some big clouds, but luckily the rain held. And it was a bit warmer than yesterday.

Europe - Day 5 - Olympic Museum - All about Mexico

May 29,

Obviously at the museum I kept an eye out for anything about Mexico. And it deserves its own post. Here we go...
