Yoga

This morning I went to a yoga class for the very first time in many, many months. Needless to say I was super thight, but it was still a good workout. The view was priceless! ... Great way to make a comeback.

Sunscreen

Yesterday Lionel and I bought the most expensive sunblock ever: $35 for a little bottle. You might think we made the rookie mistake of forgetting to bring our own, but in fact it was worse than that. We made the [bad] conscious decision of not bringing ours because of all the current travel regulations on the amount of liquids you can bring with you on your carry on. How expensive could it really be to get one down there? I asked myself. Clearly, worse than I thought.

After buying our expensive sunblock we headed to the pool, where we realized that besides having current magazines for you to chose and grab, they also had all kinds of sunblock - FREE of course. After relaxing by the pool for a little while we decided to walk back to our room, but decided to make one more stop by the hammocks, where we momentarily lost the darn sunblock. Lionel walked back to the pool and came back empty handed, but then we realized it had fallen out of his pocket, and I had be sitting all along on top of it.

I believe we haven't lost it yet again, which is good because at $35 for a tiny bottle, we better get to use it.

Hombres G

When I was a teenager there was a very famous pop band from Spain called "Hombres G". All the girls at school loved them, and Gabi and I were no exception to the rule. I knew all their songs - word by word - many of which talked about broken hearts and relationship drama that fit perfectly with our teenage angst.

I have been thinking about them lately because they had a song called "Nassau". It was probably one of their dumbest songs but somehow, for some strange reason, I still remember very well some of the words:

Nassau, son las ocho de la noche
Le pongo la capota, y prendo el coche

...

Parto un coco y por dentro esta podrido
Que hare yo aqui? Para que habre venido?

...

Esta maniana me ha dejado mi novia hawaiana
Y yo me pregunto
Que conio hare yo en las Bahamas

Se me jode el coche
Me deja mi novia
Me mareo cuando subo a la noria
No estoy moreno, estoy quemado
Y los mosquitos me han destrozado
...

Nassau

Lionel and I just arrived at the Bahamas for a long weekend getaway. Neither one of us had ever been here before, and although it is different in its own right, it also reminds me of Mexico in more ways than one. Houses big and small, rich and poor, all coexist side by side. As we made the drive from the airport to the hotel a pedestrian crossed the street where he shouldn't have, which made the drivers around honk at him in dislike. Hmmm... I guess that come to think of it, that reminds me of everywhere.

Although I am happy to get away from the routine, I am also sad that the girls couldn't come with us. But the purpose of the trip is to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and relax - not an easy thing to do with a 6 and a 3 year old running around.

I read many reviews about the Bahamas and the service levels you can expect - some good, some really bad - so I am not sure what to expect anymore. But I will start the trip with cautious optimism and will hope for the best. After all I have no blackberry, no computer, and no ipad from work.   That should be relaxing enough by default.

Viva Las Vegas

Las Vegas is not my favorite place by any means. Yet, I have been back a number of times with Lionel or for work. This past week I was there once again for a conference, and although we worked hard a friend and I also found the time to have some fun. We spent some time by the pool, and went on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. Those were some nice views.

A day at the park

Even though the fall is upon us, last Sunday was a beautiful sunny day, so while Lionel was playing soccer, the girls and I headed to the park. It is never easy to chase both at the same time, but I was happy to see them having fun running around.
