Europe - Day 6 - Real Alcazar de Sevilla

Today we set the alarm at 8:00 am so we could get ready and go out at 9:00 am. That way we could get a few walking hours in before the brutal heat of the afternoon. At least that was the plan. The girls struggled a bit getting up, so we ended up leaving the house closer to 10:00 am, but that was Ok. We got to the Real Alcazar right before it opened, so we didn't have to wait in line to buy tickets. We went right through, and spent the better part of 2 hours walking around taking it all in. It was beautiful, and also crazy big. Every time you thought you had reached the end, it just kept going.
By the time we came out of the Alcazar the line for the church was really long, so we decided not to do that. The girls were getting tired and we didn't want to face a meltdown, so we headed back to the apartment instead. Instead of walking the entire way we decided to take the subway, which looked pretty new and clean. I don't know if it gets used a lot, since Sevilla is not that big, but I am sure glad it was there today.

Europe - Day 5 - Sevilla, Plaza Espana

This evening, after we got some rest and stopped by one of the playgrounds, we made our way to the Plaza Espana. The Plaza was built for a world fair, similar to the Eiffel tower, and all around it features mosaics representing the different Spanish regions. It also includes a canal and several bridges, which made me think of Venice, and it is right next door to a big park that for some reason reminded me of Paris. The weather had also cooled down a lot, since it was past 8:00pm, which made for an even more pleasant visit.

Europe - Day 5 - Play time

There is a small park right in front of the apartment where we are staying, and another one nearby, so this evening we made some time for the girls to enjoy some plain old playground time. They needed it, since they are still kids after all, so I am glad they could spend a few minutes out there doing their gymnastics, playing with sand, and bouncing up and down.

Europe - Day 5 - On to Sevilla

Barriga llena, corazon contento.
After a short 90 minute drive, this afternoon we arrived in Sevilla. And we were hungry! This morning we only ate some peaches we bought in Madrid because there were no food stores nearby in Cordoba, and the restaurants open late - at 1:00 pm. We were not necessarily hungry when we left, because with the heat you don't get as hungry, but by the time we got here it was definitely time to eat.
After dropping off our stuff at the rental apartment, and getting a bunch of directions from our host, we went back out to have a late lunch at one of the nearby tapas place he recommended. The place was really good, and everybody enjoyed the meal. Sofia was all excited when the octopus came out, and she and Lionel battled it out for the last bite of dessert.
After lunch, on our way back to the apartment, we stopped by a supermarket to get breakfast food. And now we are back here, chilling for a little bit, before we go back out in a couple of hours.
Europe - Day 5 - The last of Cordoba

This morning, before we left for Sevilla, we took one last walk around Cordoba. We went to see the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, which of course was beautiful. It is good to be king.

This morning I got up at 7:00am to go running, to beat the brutal heat. I wanted to run 4 miles, since I am supposed to be training for the Queen Bee half marathon already, but ended up pushing for 5. It was warm but not hot and certainly not muggy, so with my water bottle in my hands I felt like 5 was definitely doable.
