Wedding at Winter Park

Sep 22,

This weekend Lionel and I went to Colorado to attend Isabel’s wedding, who was the girls nanny for 4 summers. Unfortunately the girls were not invited, as they were trying not to make their wedding unmanageable big, but we still got to see our Sofifi. Only for lunch, but it was better than nothing. We went to The Buff, which is a classic spot.

After lunch we drove about an hour and a half to Winter Park. As part of the wedding activities they had a couple of group hikes, which was good giving that we were in the mountains and we definitely wanted to be outdoors. Plus we got to meet some of Isabel’s current neighbors in Colorado, which are the ones we chatted with a bit given that - other than Isabel’s family - we didn’t really know anyone else.

The wedding was at the top of the mountain and the crazy weather turned quickly, getting really really cold. But the bride and groom decided to still have the ceremony outside, and just keep it short. Luckily I had my jacket with me, so I was a little cold but mostly ok. And despite the cold, the view was still beautiful.

During the pre-wedding activities I had moments where I wondered if we had made the right choice going to the wedding, given that we didn’t know anyone else, but in the end I was glad they included us and that we were there. After all, meeting Isabel’s family was the highlight of our 3 years in Anderson.

After the wedding we were driving back down to Denver on Sunday morning, but the forecast called for snow. We did get snow overnight - even though it was not even October - but it was not that much and it didn’t stick to the ground. So luckily we didn’t have any issues and safely made our way back.

Field Hockey at Wellesley

Sep 16,

Today Bella’s team had a game against a private school in Wellesley. They lost, and she didn’t play a lot, so she wasn’t in a good mood and didn’t want to take a photo. But at least the weather was really nice. I enjoyed that part and being there for her whether they won or not. I am not there for the win. I am there for my kid.

Sunday

Sep 15,

This morning my mom and I walked Kika for 2.5 miles and then I went for a 4 mile run. It was still cool when we went for the walk, but it warmed up quickly. After my run I went to the basement to do weights for a few minutes, while my mom sat outside with Kika, but Kika spotted me through the window and decided to keep an eye on me.

Abuelita on tour

Sep 15,

During the week my mom was at home while I worked my regular crazy hours, so on Friday afternoon I left early and took her on a flash visit to the Boston public park, Newbury street, and the library. The weather was beautiful, nice and warm, just like I like it. Then, on Saturday I took her to Newport and we visited The Breakers. The weather was beautiful again - she got lucky that the weather was nice the entire time she was here.

To round up the day, when we got back from Newport she got to see Bella after her very first lacrosse practice with her new club team.

Back to school night

Sep 12,

This evening was back to school night at Bella's new school and we got to meet all of her teachers. While we went around the different classrooms, Bella just hung out with the new kids she is befriending. It is nice to have a much better start to the school year, and it was nice to see her in a group of kids - just like she likes it.

Welcome to the family

Abuelita in Boston

Sep 8,

This past week I was in Cincinnati for work and on Friday I came back to Boston and brought my mom with me. It is her first time visiting since we moved here last summer. Yesterday she got to see Bella's new school and my office - at least from the outside and the main lobby. And, although not her favorite, got to participate on a small picnic organized by the Hispanic community at work. Then, this morning we took a 4 mile walk with Kika and drove to Rockport in the afternoon. Rockport is so cute and one of my favorites, and only about 1 hour drive from the house.

By the time we came back from Rockport Bella was also back from hanging out with some new classmates, so the 3 of us went to Tatte. I wanted my mom to see it since Bella and I go there often on Sunday afternoons.

To close out the day, Philippe, Monique, and the Italian cousins came for dinner. I meant to take a family photo but then got sidetracked and didn't.

My mom is here until Thursday, but it is hard to find the time to do anything  during the week. So I am glad we got some good activities in during the last couple of days.
