This week we are in the Normandie Region of France, and today we visited World War II sights very recognized by anybody in the US: La Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, and the American Cemetery and Memorial.
Visiting those places is very emotional, and while walking around I couldn't help but feel a wave of sadness come over me. They are so beautiful and peaceful today that it is hard to truly grasp the horrors they witnessed back in the day. But the thing that made me even more sad was not just thinking about past events, but the knowledge that there are horrible things also happening today. Why can't we learn the lessons from wars past, and prevent them from happening again?
